Chapter 3

Cecil

“Is Lionel asleep?” Michael asked as I slipped out of the nursery. I yawned as I nodded and made my way to the sofa. Curling up next to him, I snuggled against his broad chest while Michael wrapped his arms around me.

“The last of my furniture was picked up by the second-hand shop this afternoon. I’m now officially moved out of my apartment,” he commented softly while his hand gently rubbed my tight shoulder.

I nuzzled his chest before looking up with a cheeky grin. “Would this be a horrible time to tell you that I’ve changed my mind and you can’t live here after all?”

Michael chuckled. “It would, but I figure that you’ll probably keep me around, so I’m not too worried about it. If nothing else, I do come in handy for those middle-of-the-night diaper emergencies.”

“This is true,” I agreed. “There’s a lot to be said for having help changing the nappies. The boy is only three weeks old, but I think he pisses more than we do.”

“Nah, it’s just that his piss is measured by the amount of diapers he goes through. Not to mention the fact that the boy drinks a lot of milk.”

I rolled my eyes. “He drinks the normal amount. His pediatrician said…” Michael cut me off by sealing his mouth over mine. As his tongue slipped into my mouth, I ran my hand over his chest and found yet another reason to be glad that I’d finally allowed him to move in.

He echoed my thought when he broke the kiss. “You know, if I was still living in my apartment across town, we wouldn’t be able to have quiet moments together like this while the baby is asleep. You’d be all by yourself while I languished in a sad, empty apartment with nothing to do but watch porn and jerk off.”

I snorted. “Please. Like I don’t know that you do that anyway? I know what was going on while I took my nap earlier.”

Michael didn’t try to deny it. He just shrugged. “Hey, just because I’m a father now doesn’t mean that my cock quit working.”

I yawned again. “Kudos to you. I haven’t come since my water broke—not that I’m in a hurry.”

“Why not, doll face? You’re not traumatized by that, are you?” Michael tipped my chin up with two fingers, his eyes examining mine with concern.

I rolled my eyes. “No, goofy. I’m simply too damn tired to exert myself. Maybe after I sleep for a month or two, I’ll be able think about more than simply existing. I read all the articles and parenting websites about life with a newborn, but nothing could have prepared me for this level of exhaustion.”

“Yeah, I hear you. Not to beat a dead horse, but just think about how much worse it would be right about now if I hadn’t moved in.”

Laughing, I shook my head. “Yes, Michael. You were right; I needed you here. Are you happy now? Can we let this drop, now that I’ve finally admitted that?”

Michael flashed me a wink.
